National Tooth Brushing Day

Encouraging Your Kids To Brush Their Teeth Regularly on "National Brush Day" November 1

National Brush Day is celebrated on November 1, the day after Halloween, to bolster the importance of children’s oral health and encourage decent tooth-brushing habits. This day urges parents to ensure that their kids follow the Oral health-care guideline by the Dental Health Association, which is brushing teeth for 2 minutes, twice a day.

Also known as National Brush Your Teeth Day, Brush Day is all about saving children from tooth decay and oral diseases, especially after they have consumed lots of sweet treats the day prior on Halloween Festival. This November 1 awareness holiday comes with oral health campaigns by famous floss brands such as Colgate, with the central theme being:

“promoting healthy tooth-brushing activities in children and requesting parents to ensure that their kids brush their teeth for two minutes, twice a day” … so that children remain away from oral diseases such as cavity and tooth decay.

*Do you know? There’s another holiday as well that promotes the importance of oral hygiene, called National Fresh Breath Day.

Who Created National Tooth Brushing Day

It was back in August 2012 when an extension of the Kids’ Healthy Mouths public service advertising (PSA) campaign by the Ad Council and the Partnership for Healthy Mouths, Healthy Lives — a coalition of over 35 famous oral health organizations — decided to establish National Brush Day to be celebrated on November 1.

The intention behind the creation of this “brush your teeth day” was to enforce parents to take utmost care of their child’s oral health and make sure that their child brushes teeth for two minutes, twice a day; to help decrease the risk of cavities, tooth decay, and other oral issues.

The very first Brush Your Day was observed on November 1, 2013, and we have been celebrating this holiday since then.

When Celebrated

National Brush Your Teeth Day is always celebrated on the first day of November. This means that the upcoming Brush Your Teeth Day will be observed next on November 1.

Why Celebrate?

Every year on November 1, National Brush Day helps concentrate on children’s oral health through details about tooth brushing, actions to make brushing fun, and advice to keep teeth healthy, white, and nice. The day is here to show kids that brushing does not have to be a chore!

  • Dental decay is a common chronic childhood disease in the USA, with over 16 million kids in the U.S. suffering from untreated tooth decay.
  • 42% of children (aged 2 to 11) suffer from dental caries or cavities in their primary teeth, according to The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research.
  • In the US, oral illnesses cause children to miss 51 million school hours and their parents to miss 25 million work hours each year.
  • As per a monitoring survey conducted by the Ad Council, more than half of the world’s population of kids don’t abide by the recommended tooth-brushing time recommended by dental health experts.
  • Oral diseases affect kids from low-income households and these kids have nearly twice the amount of decayed teeth when compared with the others in the overall populace.
  • Regardless of the high percentage of oral disorder in children, studies show that parents perceive their children’s dental health as a very low priority in comparison to other health and nutrition problems.

Considering all this, we must celebrate Brush Day because the day sheds light on the importance of tooth-brushing, urges parents to take care of their kids’ oral health, and encourages children to follow the dental care guideline — in order to keep the world’s children away from oral diseases and help improve every child’s dental health through brushing which is the main part of a dental care routine.

Celebration Ideas & Activities

To highlight the necessity to brush for 2 minutes, twice daily, every day — we celebrate National Brush Day on November 1. Have a look at the best celebration ideas and activities for the upcoming Brush Day and see what parents can do on this holiday to promote healthy oral habits in their children.

1). Make Brushing Fun For Your Children. Ask your child to pick their favorite party song. Crank the music up loud, dance together, and make brushing a fun activity for children.

2). Watch Interesting and Informative Videos at 2min2x.org. It is the main website which is created to be visited by parents and children on National Brush Day. This online fun portal contains lots of informative and interesting 2-minute videos that children can watch while brushing their teeth. You can also head to Youtube and make your kids watch videos that teach proper brushing and flossing techniques.

3). Make A Pledge On Social Media. The founders of National Brush Day want parents to make a pledge on social media and make a tweet, write an Instagram caption or Facebook post in support of this oral health awareness holiday. The pledge could be anything like “November 1 is Brush Day. I pledged to help keep my kids maintain proper oral hygiene”. Make sure to include the hashtags of the day – #2min2x and #NationalBrushDay.

4). Buy Your Kids Their Favorite Toothpaste Flavor & A Soft Bristle Brush. Kids love gifts, and what’s a better way to celebrating Brush Day by taking your kids at a mart and buying them their favorite flavored-toothpaste and a nice soft bristle brush…maybe one that features your kid’s favorite cartoon! This way your kids will be encouraged to happily use their new brushing set to brush their teeth regularly.

5). Gift Your Kid An Electric Toothbrush Powered By Artificial Intelligence. Do you know? 80% of people miss at least one spot of their mouth when brushing. With an electric AI-powered toothbrush, your kid will receive real-time feedback on the missed spots of the mouth, thus ensuring the best tooth-brushing results.

6). Share Brushing Selfies on Social Media. You can take part in Brush Day activities by uploading yours or your kid’s brushing selfies on social media, using the hashtag #NationalBrushDay

Why National Brush Day is Celebrated After Halloween?

Since children consume lots of trick-or-treat goodies on the 31st October Halloween festival, it makes November 1 the best time to celebrate National Brush Day and promote tooth brushing. After all, what better day to promote good brushing habits than a day after Halloween when sugary Halloween candies could be lingering in mouths?

Happy Brush Day November 1 to all!
