Eminem had an unhappy childhood. Their family suffered from poverty and allegations of abuse. At 14 years old, he started rapping in clubs in Michigan and Detroit. He has unexcused absences in the ninth grade, prompting him to quit school. He was determined to pursue a career in hip hop music. With his talent in rapping and making songs, Eminem broke through the music industry, becoming the best-selling rapper of all time.

Family

Eminem had only one wife in his life. He was married twice to Kimberly Anne “Kim” Scott. He met her in high school. When he was 15, they had an on-and-off relationship. On December 25, 1995, their daughter Hailie was born. The two got married in 1999 but divorced in 2001. In January 2006, they remarried again. But Eminem filed for divorce in early April. He agreed to have a joint custody with Hailie. He also got custody of Alaina, the daughter of Kim’s sister, and Whitney, Kim’s daughter from another relationship. In early 2010, Eminem denied tabloid reports that he and Kim had renewed their romantic relationship; however, in the same statement his representative also confirmed that they now maintain a friendly relationship.

Career

Considered to be the best-selling rapper of all time as well as one of the most successful musical artists of all time, Eminem has had a very successful career. However, just like many other successful persons, the road to success was a tough one, especially his early beginnings.

Breakthrough

Eminem made a name for himself in the hip hop underground. He was a solo artists and a member of the Detroit-based rap sextet D12, also known as the Dirty Dozen. In 1996, he released his first album called 1996 but it sold poorly. But then, he continued to work on menial jobs.

in 1997, Eminem placed second in a freestyle category Rap Olympics in Los Angeles. This caused Dr. Dre, founding member of NWA and the head of Aftermath Entertainment to notice him. He got known as Slim Shady whose lyrics are often vulgar and violent.

With Dr. Dre as his mentor and producer, he released The Slim Shady LP in 1999. The album sold millions of copies and won two Grammy Awards and four MTV Music Awards.
