Record Store Day

April 10th Record Store Day

The Record Store Day is celebrated on one Saturday every April and also every Black Friday in November. The day aims to celebrate the culture of independently owned record stores. This day also brings together fans, music enthusiasts, artists, and independent record stores from all over the world.

About the Record Store Day

The Record Store Day celebration is all about music. Independent record stores are shops that sell different kinds of music in different formats. There are lots of these all over the world. However, with the technology that we have today and as it continues to become more advanced and sophisticated, more and more people seem to neglect record stores. The Record Store Day wants to turn this around. The day wants to make people take a step back and look at records sold on Record Stores.

History

At its roots, the Record Store Day was only an idea to make an event similar to the Free Comic Book Day, which was pioneered by Bull Moose Music’s Chris Brown and Criminal Record’s Eric Levin. Record Store Day was founded in 2007 by Eric Levin, Michael Kurtz, Carrie Colliton, Amy Dorfman, Brian Poehner and Don Van Cleave, and is now celebrated at stores around the world, with hundreds of recording and other artists participating in the day by making special appearances, performances, meet and greets with their fans, the holding of fund raisers for community non-profits, and the issuing of special vinyl and CD releases along with other promotional offerings to mark the occasion.

As mentioned earlier, the Record Store Day is always celebrated on one Saturday in April. For this year, the chosen date of celebration for the event is April 10.
