And even though some types of cancer can be treated, they are hard to do so. But there are still people who survive the illness. They are called cancer survivors and are looked upon as brace citizens who were able to conquer such a deadly disease. This event is predominantly celebrated in the United States. But more and more people are beginning to celebrate the event in other countries as well. The National Cancer Survivors Day was founded by Merril Hastings during the second national conference meeting of the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship which was held in Albuquerque, New Mexico on November 20, 1987. To formalize the celebrations, Hastings filed the name of the event as an International Class 042 Service. He also registered the name with the United States Patent and Trademark Office in the name of Pulse Publications.
The first National Cancer Survivors Day was held back on June 5, 1988. The event then continued as an annual celebration in the country ever since.
