More than 76,000 Filipino soldiers were forced to surrender to the Japanese Army at dawn on April 9, 1942. These soldiers were forced to walk for about 145 kilometers barefooted and some carrying heavy loads. Their destination was in Camp O’Donnell in San Fernando Pampanga. This was infamously known as the Bataan Death March wherein thousands of Filipino soldiers died due to dehydration, starvation, and various kinds of diseases before reaching the camp.
