Who is Cesar Chavez?

Cesar Chaves was born in March 31 1927. He was an American farm worker, civil rights activist, and labor leader. He co-founded the National Farm Workers Association together with Dolores Huerta. This group is now known as the United Farm Workers union or UFW.

He was not only a civil rights leader who fought for the rights of farmers but he was also an educator and environmentalist. His cause must live on. During the time when farm workers and laborers all over America were struggling to get fair treatment and fair wages, Cesar Chavez fought for these people and became their strength. Hence, he deserves a special day of celebration wherein he is honored. The day recognizes Cesar Chavez, as a great man who helped America become a more just, more prosperous, and stronger nation. His legacy must continue to live on and become an inspiration to people in the present and in the future.

However, the first ever celebration of the Cesar Chavez Day took place in Reno, Nevada, in 2003. The state celebrated that day ever since. They also passed a state law in 2009 which required Nevada’s governor to annually issue a proclamation declaring March 31 as Cesar Chavez Day.

President Obama official proclaimed March 31 as the Cesar Chavez Day back in March 28, 2014, three days before the celebration.
