Nacho Day

Nachos were invented serendipitously by Ignacio Anaya. According to his son, Ignacio was the matre d at the El Moderno Restaurant in Piedras Negras. One time, the kitchen staff left the restaurant for a break when a group of US Army wives stationed at Fort Duncan in Eagle Pass came into the restaurant. They asked for a snack. Ignacio then prepared some tostadas cut into triangles. He topped them with cheese and sliced jalapenos. He heated the dish in the oven then served it to the group. The dish was then called Nacho’s special.
