History

Fast food was first popularized in the USA during the 1950s. Fast food is the term given to any meal that can be prepared fast and served to customers in a package – hence its name. The meals prepared can be served quickly for dine in, take out, or drive thru. In 1951, the Merriam-Webster dictionary first recognized the term fast food. From that point onwards, various fast food chains have opened in the USA. Perhaps the most popular one is McDonald’s. It is franchised all around the world.

Currently, the USA has the largest fast food industry across the globe. They restaurants have been franchised in over a hundred countries. From serving only side dishes and sandwiches, fast food restaurants now offer a wide variety of foods that include fried chicken, fish, tacos, pizza, different drinks, and various desserts.

There is no doubt that the fast food industry will continue to expand and evolve. People can expect new chains to open and new foods to be offered.

With limited knowledge about the origins of fast food, even less is known about the history of the National Fast Food Day. We don’t know when, where, and how it began. We also don’t have a clue as to who founded it. But still, we can make a good guess as to why such event was established in the first place. Perhaps a person or a group of people thought that fast food is much loved by the people. They must have then thought that it deserves a spot in the list of food holidays celebrated every year.
