14 July National Grand Marnier Day

The National Grand Marnier Day is celebrated every 14th of July each year. This day gives commemoration to Grand Marnier, a liquor extremely popular in the USA and France. It is made from the combination of Cognac brandy, sugar, and distilled essence of bitter orange. It is commonly used as ingredient in cocktails and a wide array of desserts and dishes.

The Grand Marnier was invented by Alexander Marnier-Lapostolle in the 1880s, hence the name of the liquor. It took him 10 years to discover this specific drink. He mixed different kinds of fruit liquors with cognac until he found this one – the grand marnier – combination of bitter orange (a very costly fruit) )and cognac brandy (very strong spirit).

The Grand Marnier is actually a very expensive liquor. It is usually splashed into various drinks, desserts, and in some dishes too. But it can also be drunk alone.

Unfortunately, even though we know quite a lot about the history of Grand Marnier, we don’t know much about the origins of the National Grand Marnier Day celebration as we have National Lemon Cream Pie Day. After doing an extensive research, we cannot pinpoint how the National Grand Marnier Day started or even who founded it. But still, we can make a good guess as to why the event started – perhaps a person or a group of people thought that we have different kinds of food and drink holidays so why not make one about grand marnier. And perhaps from that, the National Grand Marnier Day was born.
