What is the History of Teacher Day?

The chosen date for the celebration of the Teacher’s Day is based on the deference of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He was born on the 5th of September in 1888. He was a great philosopher, scholar, and teacher from India. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1954.

Dr. Radhakrishnan also became the first ever Vice President of India from 1952 to 1962. He is also the second President of India from 1962 to 1967. According to historians, he wished that the Teacher’s Day will be celebrated all over India during the 5th of September, which is actually is birthday. And because of this, people started to celebrate Teacher’s Day in India every September 5. The celebration of the Teacher’s Day started in the year 1962.

The World Teacher’s Day is actually held on a different date than that of India. The former is always celebrated on the 5th of October each year while the latter is celebrated on the 5th of September.
