World Turtle Day

23 May World Turtle Day

World Turtle Day is celebrated every 23rd of May each year. It was founded by the American Tortoise Rescue. The aim of this special day is to make people understand why turtles should be protected and the various ways to do it. There are species of turtles now considered to be endangered due to various reasons that include loss of habitat and water pollution. Because of this, solid actions must be taken to protect the remaining turtles we have on our planet.

About the World Turtle Day

Various activities are conducted during this special day of celebration. For instance, people become actively involved in various activities that let them rescue turtles. Children in schools are educated by their teachers about the plight of turtles. Some people also celebrate this day by holding parties that let them dress in turtle costumes. But of course, they don’t let the party end without informing people about the many different ways on how we can save our turtles.

As mentioned above, World Turtle Day was founded by the American Tortoise Rescue or ATR. This organization was founded by Susan Tellem and Marshall Thompson in 1990. ATR is a non-profit organization that rescues and rehabilitates all species of turtles and tortoises. They also promote activities that improve the habitat of these animals.

In 1990, ATR founded World Turtle Day. The aim of such a celebration was to protect tortoises and turtles all over the world. The celebration has been a lot helpful because thousands of tortoises and turtles have been rescued and brought into caring homes before being released into the seas.
