Candies have a long history in our culture. The term candy started to be used by humans around late 13th century by Middle English. The origin was from the French word cucre candi, which is in turn derived from the wards Qand and Qandi which are Persian words that mean cane sugar.
Going back further in time before sugar was invented, candies were derived from honey and fruits. Honey was used as coating for fruits and flowers for preservation purposes and also to create various forms of candies. Though today, there are still varieties of candies served this way.
In the 18th century, the first candies came to France and Britain. The simplest form of candy that time was the Rock Candy made from crystalized sugar. However, sugar was so expensive that time that only the wealthy ones were able to afford candy.
